Fifty years ago, tens of thousands of flower children flocked to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco and began a counterculure movement that helped define the hippie era that followed. In his new book, 1967: A Complete Rock Music History of the Summer of Love, noted journalist and historian Harvey Kubernik explores the months preceeding, during and after that influencial summer using the rock music and stars popular at that time as his guide. His colorful tome includes interviews with musicians, iconic imagery, festival posters and concert flyers to help bring the psychedelic aesthetic of the movement to life. Here, a selection photographs from the book.
