We’ve all known—or have been—a young lady who interpreted seemingly random happenings as a sign from the magical mystery forces of the great beyond. Or as the indomitable Bill Nye The Science Guy puts it:
“We now know the universe is essentially a force sending cosmic guidance to white women in their 20s… A giant dream board on which women pin their wishes.”
Delivered absolutely deadpan amongst a set very reminiscent of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Cosmos, Nye’s interpretation of the universe as a mystical force with nothing better to do than serve as a Magic 8-Ball for reinforcing our inner desires is interspersed with vignettes from Amy Schumer and the Broad City girls musing on the transcendent nature of things.

Yes, it’s a sketch from Tuesday’s Inside Amy Schumer—and one worth watching, if only to hear the scientist casually throw in the towel after Schumer and a friend decide breaking news coverage of a cyclone is actually the universe telling them to catch up on New Girl on Hulu.
And it is, itself, a prescient dig at the dipshit conservative backlash to Nye’s tweet accrediting the Texas flood to climate change.
“Billion$$ in damage in Texas & Oklahoma. Still no weather-caster may utter the phrase Climate Change,” Nye tweeted on Tuesday.
For this, he was labeled an “alarmist” by conservative news website Twitchy.
“This just makes no fucking sense,” the flustered Nye says. “I mean, that’s just bullshit.”
