Montage of Heck

While researching the first authorized Kurt Cobain documentary, Montage of Heck director Brett Morgan was given unprecedented access to the grunge god’s estate. Piecing together testimonials from friends and family, unreleased video, and unreleased songs, Morgan was able to paint an intimate picture of Cobain’s life behind the scenes. As the director told The Daily Beast’s Marlow Stern, “The film can be ear-piercingly loud and then very soft and gentle, and it’s a metaphor for Nirvana’s music.”

A soundtrack for the documentary was pieced together from the more than 200 hours of unheard music Morgan found while researching the film. Among his findings: a moving cover of The Beatles’ And I Love Her. Slow and powerful, the cover is a familiar reminder why Cobain was so revered.

The soundtrack will be released Nov. 13.
