Thursday night, with just 11 days to go until this endless election is over, Seth Meyers decided to take a “closer look” at the “full-on crackup” that Donald Trump has caused within the Republican Party. And he began with Trump’s decision to “lean into” his reputation as a “groper” by hugging the American flag at a campaign event this week.

“That image pretty much sums up the state of the Trump campaign,” Meyers said. “Clumsy, fake patriotism, and unwanted physical contact. It’s only a matter of time before that flag is giving a press conference with Gloria Allred.”

The “problem,” as Meyers sees it, is that Republicans have decided to nominate someone who “embodies the very ideas of toxic masculinity and male entitlement.” This is evident in everything from Trump’s views on sexual harassment in the workplace to the disturbingly sexualized comments he has made about his daughter Ivanka.

Meanwhile, Trump has enlisted right-wing media figures like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh to “paint Hillary Clinton as an election-rigging, criminal sex freak in order to make her look illegitimate from Day One, just like they tried to make President Obama look illegitimate.”

Nothing encapsulated this mind-set more than the recent tweet from former GOP Xongressman Joe Walsh, which read, “On November 9th, if Trump loses, I’m grabbing my musket. You in?”

“He’s gonna grab it?” Meyers asked. “Sounds like Gloria Allred just got herself a new client!”
