The House Oversight Committee wants more information on foreign payments to and contacts with Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser.
Committee chairman Jason Chaffetz and ranking member Elijah Cummings sent four separate letters to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, FBI Director James Comey, Defense Secretary James Mattis, and Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats requesting the pertinent documents by April 3.
“Chaffetz and Cummings requested that each agency produce documents relating to Flynn’s foreign contacts and payments, security clearance applications, and other related documents between the time of his retirement in 2014 to present day,” a press release reads.

The letters focus on six specific areas. Cummings and Chaffetz would like information provided by Flynn in response to “security clearance applications, certifications, or requests for periodic reinvestigation.”
Additionally, they’d like to see “investigative and adjudicative files” related to “Foreign Influence” or “Foreign Preference,” two separate guidelines of documentation associated with Flynn’s security clearances.
Cummings and Chaffetz request documents related to contacts with foreign nationals and interactions between Flynn and “RT officials, representatives, affiliates, or agents.”
Finally, the request covers documents related to “receipt of funds from any foreign source,” efforts to seek approval for payments from foreign sources and documents related to Flynn’s work with Leading Authorities, Inc., the speakers group with which Flynn was affiliated.
Flynn was asked to resign from the White House last month after misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his previous conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
He also recently registered as a foreign agent with the Department of Justice for lobbying work he did before the election that may have benefited the Turkish government.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the letter from Chaffetz and Cummings.
