Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not face charges following his arrest in Texas on Friday night. The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office told the Austin-American Statesman that, after further investigation, the case had been declined. The arrest followed allegations that Worthy assaulted a family or household member by impeding the person’s breathing or circulation.

“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy, and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick stated. “Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.”

According to Worthy’s attorneys, as reported by ESPN, the altercation began when Worthy asked an unnamed woman to leave his residence. She allegedly caused property damage and scratched the football star’s face. However, Worthy does not intend to press charges, and his attorneys maintain that he was not at fault. “We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence,” the athlete’s attorneys said in a statement.

The Chiefs are aware of the arrest and are currently gathering information. While the charges have been dismissed, Worthy could still face punishment under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, which governs players’ behavior both on and off the field. Despite the legal turmoil, Worthy’s career remains on track for now, with the Chiefs continuing to support the 21-year-old’s development as he works to build on his breakout season.

Worthy was selected as the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and quickly emerged as one of the league’s most promising wide receivers. As a rookie, Worthy made an impression at the NFL Combine, setting a new record for the fastest 40-yard dash. He also scored two touchdowns during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
