In brief remarks before playing acoustic versions of “Thunder Road” and “Dancing in the Dark” at Hillary Clinton’s election eve rally in Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen told the large crowd, “The choice tomorrow couldn’t be any clearer.” The rocker described Clinton as a candidate who has based her campaign on “intelligence, experience, preparation” and one with a vision of America “where everyone counts.” By contrast, he said Donald Trump is a man whose “vision is limited to little beyond himself” with a “profound lack of decency.” He said, “Tomorrow those ideas and that campaign is going down,” before launching into the song “Long Walk Home,” a “prayer for post-election.” Among the lyrics in that song, which appears on his 2007 album Magic, are these lines: “Here everybody has a neighbor / Everybody has a friend / Everybody has a reason to begin again.”
