Ai Weiwei, one of China’s most celebrated contemporary artists, has caused the Chinese authorities to act against him for his campaign to discover what caused the death of schoolchildren in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. His blog on Sina.com and posts on China’s version of Twitter have been deleted and he and his family are being watched. Ai has alleged that a high number of children died because of faulty construction due to local corruption. He has launched a new blog, whose server is based in the U.S., but he is uncertain how long it will be available in China.
