Ever since President Obama’s reelection, petitions from various states have been cropping up on the White House’s “We the People” website calling for permission to secede. On Saturday, the administration decided to reply to all those that reached over 25,000 signatures within one month (including one from Texas, which received 125,000). Unsurprisingly to everyone save maybe those who started the petitions, the Office of Public Engagement, instead of blessing the request, responded with a reminder that the Founding Fathers gave us many liberties. Surprise: splitting off when things get complicated isn’t one of them.
