Acclaimed Colombian novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez died at age 87 on Thursday, according to his family. "[T]he world has lost one of its greatest visionary writers—and one of my favorites from the time I was young," President Obama said in a statement. The Nobel Prize winner was in delicate health in the past few days due to pneumonia, and had recently been hospitalized for dehydration and an infection. Garcia Marquez's masterful books, notably One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera, propelled him to the highest literary echelons, and outsold all other Spanish-language works apart from the Bible.
