Mexican officials captured drug cartel boss Hector Beltran on Wednesday. They confirmed his identity with DNA tests after he was captured in a restaurant in the city of San Miguel Allende. Beltran is believed to be the leader of the Beltran Levya cartel, which was originally part of the Sinaloa cartel. According to the U.S. government, the Beltran Levya cartel trafficked cocaine, marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine while terrorizing central Mexico. Levya, 49, is believed to have become the cartel’s main leader after his brother, Arturo, was killed in 2009. Beltran is the latest in a string of high-profile drug arrests. Perhaps most famously, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the head of the Sinaloa cartel, was captured in February, a decade after he escaped from prison.
