Avengers: Age of Ultron actors Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner have issued apologies for slut-shaming comments made during an interview with Digital Spy. When asked about fans rooting for romances between Scarlett Johansson’s character, Black Widow, and both Hawkeye and Captain America, Renner replied, “She’s a slut.” Evans, guffawing, added, “a complete whore.” Both actors apologized on Thursday, with Evans saying, “We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.” Renner’s apology differed in tone: “I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
