CNN Reveals What Americans Think of Trump’s Tariffs Plan

TARIFFS OVER TAYLOR

There’s been “more Google searches for tariffs than for Taylor Swift,” a CNN data correspondent claimed.

CNN senior data correspondent Harry Enten warned viewers on Monday’s edition of CNN News Central that President Donald Trump’s tariffs polling numbers are “Horrible!” Mediaite reported.

The president imposed a 25 percent tariff against trading partners Canada and Mexico and 10 percent on goods from China, before hitting pause on the Mexican tariffs. This policy has been received with widespread criticism and will result in temporary “pain” for consumers, by Trump’s own admission.

Enten joined CNN anchor John Berman to highlight that 51 percent of the public opposes the tariffs and confirm that the overall consensus is negative, with only 38 percent of those polled supporting them. Enten claimed that “something horrible has happened here.”

It seems like the public is not only opposed to the tariffs but also does not want the president to focus on them over matters such as immigration and the economy.

Referencing an Ipsos poll, Enten pointed out that public consensus shifted 1 percent from November of 2024 to December 2024, jumping from 1 percent last year to 2 percent this year.

In addition, it looks like the American public’s attention has indeed switched to tariffs. The term has seen a 2,400 percent bump, reaching a 21-year high in weekly Google searches—swiftly surpassing Taylor Swift as the top search.

“In the past week, more Google searches for tariffs than for Taylor Swift. I never thought I’d see it happen, but American people are actually interested in tariffs and in a negative fashion,” Enten said.
