Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has told fellow Democrats in Virginia he will not resign from office after saying Friday he appeared in a racist 1984 photo showing people dressed in blackface and Ku Klux Klan robes, the Virginia Democratic Party said on Twitter. Northam on Friday said he was in the photo (though he didn’t specify which person) and apologized for it. Now the governor is reportedly saying he does not believe he was in the 1984 photo on his yearbook page from medical school, a Democrat told AP. The New York Times also reported Northam’s sudden doubt and said he plans to make a statement today.
We made the decision to let Governor Northam do the correct thing and resign this morning - we have gotten word he will not do so this morning.
