The Republican Party’s platform now includes a provision stating that pornography is a “public health crisis” and a “menace.” According to the amendment, which was adopted unanimously: “Pornography, with his harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children’s safety and well-being.” The measure is more harsh than what was included in the party’s 2012 platform, which called for stricter obscenity and child-pornography laws.
