Presumptive secretary of defense nominee Pete Hegseth made more than $2 million a year as a Fox News anchor, according to financial disclosure documents obtained by the Washington Post. If Hegseth is confirmed as DoD head, he will make a measly $246,000 a year. It is widely thought that Hegseth was nominated because of his loyalty to Donald Trump. However, various scandals have plagued the nominee. Hegseth has been accused of sexual misconduct (even by his own mother), financial impropriety, alcoholism, and creating a toxic work environment. Hegseth denies these allegations. He awaits a grilling during a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday. The committee requested additional information about the allegations against Hegseth in preparation for the hearing. Trump has stood by Hegseth, calling him a “WINNER.” The president-elect may be sticking by his nominee to prevent a “domino effect” that could prevent all his controversial nominees, such as Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., from ascending to positions in his administration.
