John Mulaney Spills New Details About Olivia Munn Wedding

TMI

The “SNL” alum revealed how their son “stole the show” at their secret nuptials.

John Mulaney is finally ready to talk about his private wedding to Olivia Munn.

The SNL alum, whose reimagined talk show Everybody’s Live premieres this Wendesday night on Netflix, shared one of the July 2024 ceremony’s most memorable moments on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night: When the couple’s three-year-old son Malcolm made his presence known during their vows.

“He went to the bathroom in his diaper during and announced it mid-vows,” Mulaney told Kimmel. He and Munn share son Malcolm and six-month-old daughter Méi, who they welcomed via surrogate in September last year.

Malcolm turned three in November, Mulaney shared, but “over the summer, he was a two-year-old.”

“He was at our wedding in a little tuxedo and shorts,” he continued. “He didn’t ask at any point, ‘Oh you two aren’t married yet?’ Which is nice.” But he did have an announcement to make, Mulaney said, recalling the moment “a very sweaty little two-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping!’”

Kimmel laughed about the timing, but Mulaney conceded, “It’s really an in-the-moment kind of declaration.”

The comedian shared more about the ceremony, including how it came to be that Law and Order actor Sam Waterston officiated the ceremony. Waterston and Munn co-starred on The Newsroom from 2012 to 2014. Waterston “once said to Olivia ‘If you ever get married, I’ll perform the ceremony,’” Mulaney said. “I think it was chit-chat, but you know, you take people up on what they offer.”

Mulaney also opened up on the show about the meaning behind his daughter Méi’s name as Kimmel joked that he and Munn named the little one Méi (pronounced “May”) June. “Did you do that to be funny?” Kimmel asked with a laugh.

“No. I’m a professional comedian, so if I was going for funny it might be a harder laugh than May next to June,” Mulaney quipped. He and Munn wanted to honor Munn’s mother Jung with an “Americanized” version of the name, but ultimately the comedian thought June Mulaney sounded too “weirdly” close to his own name.

Though the couple wed in July last year, Munn didn’t confirm the union until August—just months after revealing her shocking breast cander diagnosis in March.
