Former NFL fullback Kevin Turner died Thursday at the age of 46 after a six-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Turner played eight seasons with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles and, following his ALS diagnosis, became active in researching a link between brain diseases and football-related head trauma. He was the lead plaintiff in a massive ex-player lawsuit against the NFL regarding concussions, and he had repeatedly stated that he would not have played football had he known the physical damage it would cause.
