Luigi Mangione’s family have broken their silence following his arrest on Monday in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. “Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione. We only know what we have read in the media,” Nino Mangione, a Maryland state delegate and a cousin of Luigi’s, said in a statement on behalf of the family. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.” The 26-year-old was taken into custody at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon. He then had a preliminary arraignment Monday night at the Blair County Courthouse in Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania, where he was charged with five offenses, including carrying a gun without a license, forgery, and falsely identifying himself to the authorities.
