Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle has become such a phenomenon—boasting a Beyoncé appearance, no less—that it’s sometimes easy to forget that the whole thing started as a segment on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.
It’s been awhile since Fallon has had a guest he deemed worthy of the elaborate game, but Melissa McCarthy undoubtedly fit the bill Monday night.
Fallon kicked things off with an unconventional song choice, 1971’s “Brand New Key” by Melanie, which allowed him to demonstrate his uncanny impression of someone who doesn’t know how to roller skate.

Donning a black baseball cap, McCarthy quickly one-upped him with DMX’s “X Gonna Give It to Ya,” intimidating the host with her dance moves and sick rap skills.
“Believe it or not, that was my wedding song,” Fallon joked, before using his next turn to croon Zayn Malik’s “Pillow Talk,” delighting One Direction fans everywhere.
But with the use of some props, a giant fan and a ton of glitter, McCarthy took things home with her rendition of “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s Pocahontas. There was nothing Fallon could do to top that.
