The Bear star Ayo Edebiri had some fiery words for “Sieg Heil-ing fascist” Elon Musk, who she said sicced a racist mob on her over a fake report about a Disney reboot he reposted to his millions of X followers.
“Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the number one moment, but for sure top three), for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man,” Edebiri wrote in a post to her Instagram stories on Tuesday night, with the acronym for “laughing my a-- off.” She continued, “So not only is he [a] double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot.”
Edebiri censored the words “Sieg Heil-ing” in her post, which included a screen grab of Musk reposting a fake movie announcement for a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel. The so-called movie news claimed “Disney is considering Ayo Edebiri as a replacement for Johnny Depp in Pirates 6”—a report that, according to Edebiri, was entirely made up.
That didn’t stop the mogul from blasting it out on his X platform, where he is the most followed account, and adding “Disney sucks” to the post. Musk offered no explanation in his comment for why Disney would “suck” for choosing Edebiri, a Black woman, for the hypothetical role, prompting racist backlash.
He also offered his two cents after Cynthia Erivo, also a Black woman, was cast in the role of Jesus for the Hollywood Bowl’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar. “Imagine doing this to any other religion,” he wrote in a post on X.
The Daily Beast has reached out to a Musk’s representative for comment.
In another post, Edebiri shared some of Bill Burr’s recent takedown of Musk, in which he also called Musk an “idiot,” as well as a “Nazi.” She also included his critique of liberal pushback against Musk’s involvement in Donald Trump’s administration, reposting when Burr said, “This is why I hate liberals. It’s like liberals have no teeth whatsoever.” Edebiri made her agreement known with a bullseye emoji.
Finally, Edebiri joked that she may have actually come around to the idea of taking on Depp’s role in the Pirates franchise. On a screengrab of a fan’s DM that she would “eat” in the role, Edebiri wrote, “wait no DEI, but I’ve changed my mind, maybe we can make some money idk lmk.”
