Oscar Nuñez is the first star of The Office announced to be returning for the reboot.
On Feb. 27, Variety reported that the actor will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez, an accountant and self-described “coalition of reason,” in the Peacock’s follow-up series to The Office, a mockumentary show about a group of employees at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc., following them during their workdays, which consist of office pranks, romance, and enormous egos.
Nuñez will not play a central character in the new series but will instead be a part of the “ensemble cast,” which includes Alex Edelman, Chelsea Frei, Domhnall Gleeson, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sabrina Impacciatore, Tim Key, Eric Rahill, and Ramona Young.
Although details about the characters and the plotlines are currently under wraps, the series is rumored to be called The Paper—though Peacock has yet to confirm nor deny this—and will document the lives of reporters working at a failing Midwestern newspaper.
Greg Daniels, known for adapting The Office in the US, and Michael Koman are co-creators and executive producers for the reboot, along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who are producers on the show.
Nuñez is currently the only original cast member confirmed to be returning to the reboot. However, considering the show is within "The Office world," there is always a chance that fan favorites will make an appearance.
