The Messiest, Most Heinous Oscar Party Dresses

FASHION POLICE

Celebs like Megan Thee Stallion, Julia Fox, and Kim Kardashian certainly went with some, let’s say...bold fashion choices at this year’s Vanity Fair party.

Nipples and ruffles and more nipples, oh my!

The exclusive Vanity Fair Oscars After Party came and went Sunday night, and as always, the celebrity fashion was hit and miss.

Hosted by editor-in-chief Radhika Jones, the 31st annual Vanity Fair Oscars soirée is the event of the evening, where Hollywood stars—from Oscar nominees and winners to regular, non-award-worthy celebrities—come together to celebrate the night’s achievements. Or, more likely, pose for photos and party.

Held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, the after-party typically sees celebrities donning more daring and revealing outfits than those that appear on the Oscars red carpet. But while some stars captivated us with their haute couture fashion choices, others took the “be bold” dress code a little too literally, serving up some spectacular failures.

From nipple pastie dresses to gowns made from hair, here are the messiest looks from Vanity Fair’s 2025 Oscars after-party.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion bared it all at the after-party, but at what cost?

Stallion appeared in a fitting emerald gown that was missing its upper half. The artist wore two matching green pasties instead of a bodice to preserve her modesty.

While Stallion claims the inspiration behind her gown was Poison Ivy, a comic book character, the internet felt like she gave more “plant” than a comic book superhero.

“The most beautiful plant,” one X user wrote, commenting on Stallion’s look.

Julia Fox

Julia Fox turned up to the event in a naked dress by Dilara Findikoglu that looked like the fashion incarnation of a shower drain.

The dress was nude and completely sheer, with only some artfully placed hair extensions underneath the dress, providing bare minimum coverage for reasons that only Fox and Findikoglu can explain.

While Fox, model and star of Uncut Gems, has been known to wear some truly outrageous outfits in the past, her Vanity Fair after-party look is a little too close for comfort to the utterly sheer dress that Kanye West’s wife, Bianca Censori, wore to the Grammy Awards.

As one Instagram user commented, “All Kanye’s exes be dressing the same” and “this is the wall of my shower.”

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian took a page from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s playbook and wore a gravity-defying white ballgown by Balenciaga. But unlike Grande and Erivo, whose gowns took the internet by storm as soon as they walked onto the Oscars red carpet, Kardashian’s white look had people comparing it to wrinkled bedsheets or crumpled-up toilet paper.

“Dress looks like a paper jam,” one Instagram user joked after Vanity Fair posted Kardashian’s look.

Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson cosplayed as a circus balloon, donning a red poofy gown from Marc Jacobs that honestly looks like it could belong in a season of American Horror Story: Freak Show. Paulson’s voluminous red gown jutted out around her shoulders, waist, and ankles, giving the star a bulbous shape reminiscent of a bean bag chair or sleeping bag.

“She’s at least once considered napping in this,” one person joked on Reddit.

“The built-in neck pillows? Absolutely brilliant,” another quipped.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde served nightgown chic in a white sheer dress from Chloé‘s Spring 2025 collection. Designed by Chemena Kamali, the dress featured floral lace detailing, along with ruffles around the wrists and hem of the dress.

“That is a nightgown,” one Reddit user declared.

“Me wearing my curtains and pretending to be a regency bride on her wedding night,” another joked.

Zoë Kravitz

Zoë Kravitz said, “the crack is back,” after appearing at the party in a custom black Saint Laurent gown designed by Anthony Vacarello, which featured bedazzled mesh inserts in the back of the dress that revealed the actress' butt, crack and all.

And the internet was not about it.

“Imagine having to interact with people while your crack is hanging out of a mesh,” one person wrote on Reddit. “I sometimes have actual nightmares [about] that.”

“It’s a mullet dress: business in the front, party in the back lol. Why is her crack out??,” another user asked.

Sophie Thatcher

Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher injected some energy into the evening by showing up to the soirée in a dress that one of my Daily Beast colleagues said reminded them of used coffee filters.

The dress is black with white polka-dots, constructed out of an unbelievable amount of ruffles. It’s basically just one big ruffle at this point.

Zoey Deutch

Clearly inspired by Dr. Seuss, Zoey Deutch, Zombieland: Double Touch star, turned up at the after-party in a light-yellow frock from Tamara Ralph Spring/Summer 2025 collection, with what appears to be giant cotton bolls attached to it.

It’s giving whimsical. It’s giving Truffula Trees from The Lorax.

Camilla Cabello

Sigh. Does Camilla Cabello ever serve up a good look?

The pop star arrived to the event in a yellow gown from Alexis Mabille Fall 2024 collection, which had laces instead of cloth covering her chest.

The nipple look is basically getting boring at this point.

“Am I the only one who’s confused? Why is it so wide 😭 why does it look like a shoe," one Reddit user asked.

Another user disagreed, commenting that her dress reminded her of pizza more than a shoe.

“I want to like it because it’s unusual but I’m hungry and it reminds me of a cheese pizza.”
