Donald Trump has “fired” Joe Biden. The president seemed to be reveling in his newly reclaimed powers when she shared in a Friday night Truth Social post that he has revoked his predecessor’s security clearances and canceled his daily intelligence briefings.
Former presidents lose security clearance following the transition of power, but receive courtesy intel briefings in case their advice is needed on current affairs, according to the Center for Presidential Transition.
However, there have been cases when former presidents have been barred from receiving briefs—such as when Biden ended Trump’s access in 2021, citing Trump’s “erratic behavior,” reported The New York Times.
“I just think that there is no need for him to have the intelligence briefings,” Biden reportedly said at the time. He added, “What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?”
Trump has now returned the favor.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings,” wrote Trump. He added that Biden “set this precedent in 2021” after instructing the Intelligence Community to end his access.
“The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information,” shared Trump. “I will always protect our National Security—JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
