Trump to Woo British Royals on Diplomatic ‘Charm Offensive’

ROYAL WELCOME

The royals’ tour aims to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries as the United States celebrates a key milestone.

LONDON, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 03: Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall meet US President Donald Trump and wife Melania at Clarence House on December 3, 2019 in London, England. France and the UK signed the Treaty of Dunkirk in 1947 in the aftermath of WW2 cementing a mutual alliance in the event of an attack by Germany or the Soviet Union. The Benelux countries joined the Treaty and in April 1949 expanded further to include North America and Canada followed by Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. This new military alliance became the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). The organisation grew with Greece and Turkey becoming members and a re-armed West Germany was permitted in 1955. This encouraged the creation of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact delineating the two sides of the Cold War. This year marks the 70th anniversary of NATO. (Photo by Victoria Jones - WPA Pool/Getty Images)

President Donald Trump is set to roll out the red, white, and blue carpet for the British royal family’s King Charles and Queen Camilla as they embark on a diplomatic “charm offensive” next year across North America.

The royal tour will mark the first time a British monarch has visited stateside since 2007, reported the Mirror, with the royals planning to begin their trip in Canada before crossing into America around springtime.

“This will undoubtedly be the biggest tour of the King’s reign so far, a huge undertaking for a British monarch to be hosted in the United States,” a UK government source told the Mirror. The source added, “Americans love the British royal family, and it is a great opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the special relationship in such an important and historic year for the US.”

King Charles and Queen Camilla will reportedly arrive as the United States government kicks off celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence, with UK and U.S. governments coordinating event plans, the Mirror reported.

Sources added that the visit also serves to smooth diplomatic relations between the UK and the Trump administration, with The Sun reporting that Trump’s “warm relationship” with King Charles is a key reason why Prince Harry has not been deported from America despite a very public feud with Trump.

However, a palace source told the Mirror that plans are still in the early stages.

“There are no current dates in the diary for Their Majesties to tour either Canada or the USA, or active Palace planning taking place for either option,” according to the source.

A Palace source told the Beast when quizzed on the apparent tour: “There are no current dates in the diary for Their Majesties to tour either Canada or the USA, or active Palace planning taking place for either option.”

Prince William welcomed Trump to Paris in December 2024 when they both attended the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral following a devastating fire in 2019.

During their meeting, Trump told the New York Post that he asked William about Princess Kate and King Charles’ cancer battles. “His father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad,” he said.
